Eureka Springs is one of the Ozarks’ most charming towns — a Victorian spa village whose entire downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with streets that climb, switch back and squeeze between stone buildings. It’s wonderful on foot and miserable in a 40-foot motorhome. The good news: excellent RV parks sit just outside town, and Beaver Lake’s Corps of Engineers campgrounds are a short drive west.
Where to stay
Near downtown Eureka Springs
The Eureka Springs KOA, Wanderlust RV Park and Kettle Campground all let you park once and explore town by trolley or tow vehicle. Most sit along or near US-62.
Beaver Lake (Corps of Engineers)
Beaver Lake is a clear, roughly 28,000-acre reservoir on the White River. Dam Site Lake Park is the closest to Eureka Springs, while Prairie Creek near Rogers is one of the lake’s largest campgrounds and convenient to Bentonville.
Into the Boston Mountains
South of Fayetteville, Devil’s Den State Park is famous for its Civilian Conservation Corps stonework, caves and trails — but the roads into the valley are steep, so check the park’s recommended RV route first.
Getting around Eureka Springs
Don’t drive your RV downtown. Streets are narrow, steep and lined with parked cars, with tight hairpins and limited turnarounds. Leave the rig at camp and use the town’s trolley system or a smaller vehicle. US-62 is the main route in and out of town; it’s winding but heavily traveled by RVs.
Things to do
- Historic downtown: galleries, restaurants and springs tucked among Victorian storefronts.
- Thorncrown Chapel: the celebrated glass-and-wood chapel in the woods just west of town.
- Beaver Lake: boating, swimming and striped bass fishing.
- Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art: about an hour west in Bentonville, with free general admission and wooded trails.
- Mountain biking: Northwest Arkansas has become one of the country’s top mountain-bike destinations, with trail systems around Bentonville, Rogers and Fayetteville.
When to go
Spring and fall are prime, with comfortable temperatures and festivals in town. Summer is good for Beaver Lake but warm in town. Many Beaver Lake Corps parks are seasonal, so check opening dates for spring and late-fall trips.
